Naxos Highlights – History & Culture Sightseeing Tour
Experience the essence of Naxos with a guided half-day tour that takes you on a journey through the island’s rich history, culture, and traditions. Visit iconic landmarks like the Temple of Demeter and immerse yourself in the charm of traditional villages such as Chalki and Apiranthos. Along the way, savor local flavors and products while discovering the vibrant life of Naxos.
The adventure begins
We meet at 10:00 am outside our office, Apollon Tours, in the heart of Chora, Naxos, and begin our journey to the first stop: the Temple of Demeter. This remarkable sanctuary, dating back to the 6th century BC, offers a glimpse into ancient history. You’ll have time to capture stunning photos of the archaeological site and visit the museum.
Chalki village & Vallindras Distillery
Next, we travel to the enchanting village of Chalki, once the capital and thriving commercial hub of Naxos. Here, we visit the Vallindras Distillery, renowned for producing traditional citrus liqueur. Enjoy free time to explore the village’s picturesque alleys, soak in its charm, and shop for unique souvenirs.
Apiranthos Village & Panagia Drosiani Church
Our journey continues to the traditional village of Apiranthos, known for its warm hospitality and vibrant local life. Wander through the charming streets, meet friendly locals, and savor the flavors of Naxos by tasting local cheese and other traditional products.
We then make a short stop at the iconic Panagia Drosiani Church, a Byzantine masterpiece of unique architectural style and one of the oldest churches in the Balkans.
Flerio Valley & the Kouros Statue
The final highlight of the tour is the Kouros Statue at Flerio Valley. Stroll along a beautiful path surrounded by lush gardens and nature to reach this striking example of ancient Naxian marble art.
Parting ways at the days end
After a fulfilling day of exploration, enriched by the stunning sights, vibrant culture, and fascinating history of Naxos, we make our way back to Chora. As we drive, take a moment to reflect on the stories of ancient temples, the charm of traditional villages, and the unique flavors of local delicacies.
